One of Acer’s latest family members for its Acer Travelmate series is the 5730 laptop, designed to cater to business individuals.

The laptop market is now flooded with several ranges of business laptops from different manufacturers.  With the recent economic crisis, potential buyers often have to determine whether the laptop of their liking could satisfy their computing needs.  This review will look into that.

Pros:

The Acer Travelmate 5730, like its siblings in this laptop series, boasts of its data security features – something really important for a businessperson.  The 5730 features a fingerprint reader, which gives authorized users the needed access and restricts intruders from vital files.  This laptop is also installed with Acer’s proprietary Disc Anti-Shock Protection that prevents damage to 5730 when it is subjected to impact.  The DASP shuts down the hard drive if it detects that the laptop is in a free fall state.

The 5730 is powered by Intel’s powerful Core 2 Duo processors, guaranteeing smooth yet potent computing performance.  This processing prowess is backed by up to 4 GB of RAM, with two slots of 2 GB RAM each.  This memory support ensures that any computing operation won’t suffer any lag.

The 5730 comes with a 15.4-inch LCD that could dish out a 1280 x 800 resolution. This resolution gives multi-tasking freaks ample space to place their program windows.  It also allows easier Internet browsing especially when looking up on long Web pages.

This laptop also comes with several file-related connectivity features: four USB ports, a 5-in-1 card reader, eSATA ports, BlueTooth and an ExpressCard/54 slot for external hard drives.

Another strong feature of the Acer Travelmate 5730 is that it could stay alive for around five hours.  This is more than enough time for Internet browsing or editing document while traveling on long distances.  In times of long blackouts, a user may find it valuable to have a laptop that could stay up for half a day’s work.

Cons:

The 5730 lacks the capability to handle rich and detailed graphics, especially the 3D ones.  Not ideal for playing games during breaks, the 5730 is a pure business notebook.

The 5730 does not have an HDMI port to connect to external displays.

Conclusion:

The Acer Travelmate 5730 is really a useful mobile thinking machine for any business user.  It has high computing prowess and a large memory support.  Add to that it is this laptop’s high resolution display that allows easy multitasking.

Being a pure business laptop, one could overlook 5730’s lack of dedicated graphics. But the 5730 is useful indeed for business purposes.
